This is one of the easiest things to mix up when talking about Dangote shares in Nigeria.
Dangote Cement
Dangote Cement Plc is a listed company on the Nigerian Exchange. Its ticker is DANGCEM. The company produces and sells cement and has been listed since 2010 following the merger involving Dangote Cement and Benue Cement.
Dangote Refinery public offer
The 2026 IPO is for Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE. The official offer is separate from buying DANGCEM shares on the secondary market.
Why people confuse them
Both carry the Dangote name, both are connected to the wider Dangote industrial story, and both involve the word “shares”. But the legal company and transaction are not the same.
So which one did you buy?
If you subscribed through the 2026 Dangote Refinery public offer, your application relates to the refinery offer. If you bought DANGCEM through a stockbroker on the Nigerian Exchange, you bought shares in Dangote Cement Plc.
